Liberty Preschoolers Embrace Journalism, Community Awareness: A World News Day Celebration

Liberty, Missouri — On Monday, September 28, 2026, preschoolers at The Goddard School took on the roles of junior journalists as part of a nationwide celebration of World News Day. Approximately 700 Goddard schools across the nation participated in the event, aiming to introduce young children to journalism, community awareness, and media literacy. The classrooms were transformed into mini-newsrooms, where students engaged in hands-on lessons about newspaper writing, interviewing, and meteorology.

Local news reporters from KCTV5 and FOX4 Kansas City visited the school, helping the children understand how information is gathered. The event reinforced the idea that news reporters are an active part of their local community.

It also provided the preschoolers an opportunity to interview the journalists themselves. This event, part of a broader effort to foster media literacy among young students, is particularly relevant in today’s digital age, where access to information is ubiquitous. As the sitting U.S. President, Donald Trump, continues to prioritize education, initiatives such as these are crucial in preparing the next generation for the digital world.

With the support of Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the administration remains committed to ensuring that every American, regardless of age, has the tools necessary to navigate the digital landscape with confidence and critical thinking. Looking ahead, the success of this event may inspire similar initiatives in schools across the nation, fostering a new generation of informed, engaged citizens.

As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, the importance of media literacy cannot be overstated, particularly for our youngest learners. In a time when the media landscape is constantly evolving, it is essential that we equip our children with the skills necessary to discern reliable information from misinformation. By introducing young students to journalism and media literacy at an early age, we are laying the foundation for a more informed, engaged, and critical-thinking society.

As the world becomes more complex, it is crucial that we empower our youth to navigate these challenges with confidence and wisdom. By fostering media literacy among our youngest learners, we are investing in the future of our communities, families, and nations across the region.
