WASHINGTON, June 12 — The Department of War has released the third tranche of declassified records related to Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs), also referred to as Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), as part of the PURSUE declassification effort ordered by President Donald Trump. The newly released files include historical Federal Bureau of Investigation field-office records documenting UFO-related investigations from the 1950s and 1960s, among the oldest FBI files in the disclosure. These records were posted publicly at war.gov/UFO on June 12, 2026.
A special inquiry by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Newark Field Office details various reported sightings of unidentified flying objects in and near New Jersey between August 1952 and January 1967. The files include memoranda and correspondence between the FBI and the U.S.
Air Force regarding UFO sightings, as well as public correspondence concerning various UFO-focused groups.
Another file details an investigation of various sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects in Washington state between July 1952 and August 1960. This file also includes memoranda and correspondence between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S.
Air Force regarding UFO sightings. Officials stress that an unresolved classification does not imply an extraterrestrial origin and that no confirmed evidence of alien craft or beings has been presented.
